Alexander Grandal Hansen-Schwartz is a Danish bassoonist, currently Principal Bassoon of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in Turin, a position he has held since April 2023. His orchestral activity has led him to collaborate, also as principal bassoon, with major European musical institutions, including the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Royal Danish Orchestra, the Copenhagen Philharmonic, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Bergen Philharmonic, the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, and the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Trained in Denmark and Germany, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, refining his skills under masters such as Audun Halvorsen, Sebastian Stevensson, Diego Chenna, and Dag Jensen. Throughout his career, he has received recognition in international competitions, including second prize at the International Double Reed Society Young Artist Bassoon Competition in the United States and awards in major international chamber music competitions.

Alongside his symphonic work, Grandal Hansen-Schwartz is also active in chamber music: in 2025, he performed with the RAI Orchestra’s “Therese” Ensemble for the Concerti del Quirinale, broadcast by Rai Radio 3, performing pieces by Berwald and Beethoven.
