Wadi Ensemble: “I Fantasmi di Fenestrelle” | AUGUST 11TH

There is a legend, a curious story: it is said that there is a ghost at the Fenestrelle Fort. There are those who swear they have sensed it, heard it… even seen it. Is it just a trick of the imagination, triggered by the shadows and shifting spaces of an imposing fortress that was once inhabited by hundreds of men? An unconscious desire to evoke its presence?

But who are the “ghosts” that this extraordinary concert-performance evokes? Types of characters, people who could be found in the fortress at the time: in the Fort or in other similar fortresses. Here then are The Soldiers, The “Turkish” Prisoner, The Amorous Knight, The Philosopher Commander. Between historical suggestions and musical impressions from different eras and different places.

The musicians of WADI, in a decidedly unusual lineup of baritone, mandolin, and percussion, use all the suggestive power of music to rediscover and bring the Fort back to life.
The concert, created specifically for the Narrazioni Parallele Festival and the spaces of the Fenestrelle Fort, is a continuous flow and evolution of musical and sonic identities designed for active participation by the audience.

The Arabic word “wadi” indicates the bed of a river with an irregular hydrogeological layout, whose fertile land is a promise of rich cultivation, civilization, and exchange. The Wadi project ensembles organically bring together musicians from different traditions and languages, ranging from improvisation to the most rigorous composition.
